For seclusion, rugged
beauty, pastoral tranquillity and clean sea air, this corner is truly one of
Arran's better-kept secrets. It's ideal for anyone wanting to get away from
the daily hurly-burly - just to relax or do some quiet study, watch birds,
paint seascapes, or explore a rocky coastline with some interesting volcanic
geology, a history of shipwreck, and local seal colony. We are close to a
Site of Special Scientific Interest, and you can watch hen harriers at a
special viewing site in nearby Kilmory.
It's great for families too - children will
love the sandy beaches nearby, and there are also two indoor swimming pools
on the island, one of them at Blackwaterfoot just four miles north of Far
Horizons. Alternatively you can indulge in some of the many outdoor
activities for which Arran is famous - serious climbing, hill-walking, golf
on seven courses, river, loch and sea fishing, cycling, quad-biking,
sailing, pony-trekking, in fact most things that people like to do on
holiday anywhere, you will find you can do here on Arran.
Closer to home, our own
rocky shore offers great barbecue/picnic opportunities, with plenty of
collectable driftwood. It's quite a steep and rough track down to the shore,
but the views from the top are stunning. And of course there's birdwatching,
rockpooling and beachcombing - which can keep all ages happy for hours.
You'll need sturdy footwear, though. If you don't feel like venturing down
to the shore, you are welcome to have a barbecue on your cottage terrace -
and a big bonus that, with the prevailing on- and off-shore breezes, this
little corner of heaven is relatively midge-free...! Sunsets can really be
enjoyed here.

Our local centre of
activity is Blackwaterfoot, four miles north, for golf, one of the best
sandy beaches around, fly fishing, horse riding and also the Kinloch Hotel
with its indoor heated pool, bar meals, restaurant and other facilities.
There is a Post Office and well-stocked general store, an excellent butcher
and baker, a garage selling petrol and diesel, and a small picturesque
harbour plus slipway for launching boats.
Our nearest pub and eatery
is the attractive Lagg Hotel, two and a half miles to the south. The nearest
golf course is Shiskine (at Blackwaterfoot). We are pretty well equi-distant
from the golf courses at Whiting Bay, Lamlash and Brodick.
