The Blacksmith’s Bothy
was completed mid-2010 and is the third and final Far Horizons Cottage.
It stands apart from the other two, facing west across the Kilbrannan
Sound to Kintyre, and was constructed on new foundations on the footprint
of the original Blacksmith’s Bothy, which had a working forge and anvil
downstairs and sparse living accommodation above. It is now a comfortable
and charming holiday home, sleeping four, with furniture and fittings in
oak, a lounge area with leather furniture, and has a wood-burning stove
in addition to efficient electric heating.
The lounge/dining area is
entered through a double oak door with glass panels, leading from the
entrance hall, and a circular oak table with four chairs
stands by one of the sea-facing windows. The bathroom is also on the
ground floor, with fitted shower in the bath, WC, wash hand basin,
heated towel-rail and extractor fan. The compact, fully-equipped
kitchen has LPG gas hob, electric oven and microwave, fridge with
icebox, washer/drier and dishwasher, cooker-hood and extractor fan.
The impressive oak spiral
staircase rises from the rear of the lounge area to the first floor
landing, off which are the two comfortable bedrooms, one double (with
king-size bed) and one twin, furnished also in oak, with a snug upstairs
toilet with washbasin situated between
them.
The Blacksmith's has its
own enclosed garden with sitting-out area and washing-drier, approached
by a flight of steps to the side of the cottage.
Please note that the changeover day for this cottage is a Friday.
