Explore the Location – Arran Far Horizons Holiday Cottages

Nestled on the beautiful Isle of Arran, Arran Far Horizons Holiday Cottages offer an idyllic location for those seeking a peaceful retreat with stunning views. From our cottages, you can scan the waters of Kilbrannan Sound, where seals can often be spotted along the shore. Out at sea, you’ll catch sight of ships, the fields of Kintyre, and the magical isles of Davaar and Sanday beyond. On a clear day, you can even see the distant hills of Antrim. To the north, the charming village of Corriecravie and Torr a’ Chaisteil—a fascinating ancient burial site—are visible. The southern horizon offers views of the Rhinns of Galloway, with the light of Corsewall marking the head of Loch Ryan, visible on clear nights. To the southeast, the majestic Ailsa Craig rises from the sea, its distinctive shape and famous lighthouse creating a stunning sight.

Arran Far Horizons Holiday Cottages are located just a short walk from our own rocky shore—around 15 minutes down a farm track that winds through fields grazed by our neighbour’s sheep and cattle. As you walk, you’ll likely encounter birds of prey overhead, migrating birds, and hares darting through the fields. Along the shore, seals are a common sight, and with a bit of luck, you may even spot otters in the water. Our location offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities. Whether you enjoy hillwalking, beachcombing, cycling, kayaking, or golf, there’s something for everyone nearby. We are conveniently located just 2 miles north of the Lagg Distillery and the historic Lagg Inn, and 4 miles south of Blackwaterfoot. Blackwaterfoot offers a range of amenities, including a garage, shops, the Kinloch Hotel and Bar, a lovely sandy beach, and the renowned 12-hole Shiskine Golf Course.
For further exploration of the island, we recommend visiting visitarran.com and checking out the local weekly paper, The Arran Banner, for up-to-date listings of attractions, dining spots, and events happening on the island.
Whether you’re here to unwind and enjoy the view, or to explore the many outdoor activities that the Isle of Arran has to offer, Arran Far Horizons Holiday Cottages provide the perfect base for your adventure.
DIRECTIONS
Two hours west of Glasgow (including a one hour ferry crossing), Arran is also conveniently located for people arriving from England or Ireland. The main roads to use are the A71 (from the M74 motorway) towards Irvine, or the M77 from Glasgow to Kilmarnock, then the A71 westbound to the ferry terminal at Ardrossan.
There is also a seasonal ferry service to Lochranza, on Arran’s northern coastline, from Claonaig, on the Kintyre Peninsula.
The route to this smaller ferry service (also operated by Caledonian MacBrayne) is favourable for people touring the western isles or wishing to take in the longer scenic route from Glasgow, via Loch Lomond.
