The Ploughman’s Bothy – A Cosy, Scenic Cottage at Arran Far Horizons

Welcome to The Ploughman’s Bothy, a charming family-friendly cottage within Arran Far Horizons Holiday Cottages, ideal for couples or small families looking for a relaxing self-catering holiday on the Isle of Arran. Sleeping up to four guests, this delightful pet-friendly cottage offers a peaceful and comfortable base for your getaway. We also welcome your dog companion by prior arrangement when booking, making it the perfect spot for your whole family to enjoy.

The main entrance to The Ploughman’s Bothy is via a set of steps from the parking area, leading up to a raised patio. Patio doors open into the cosy lounge, where you’ll find two dark leather sofas and an oak coffee table, creating a welcoming space for relaxation. The Smart TV, DVD player, and Freeview box are housed in the recess of the old fireplace, which adds to the cottage’s charming character, enhanced by the exposed stone wall.

Inside, the lounge is separated from the kitchen by an open-tread spiral staircase, a unique feature that adds character to this Isle of Arran countryside cottage. Upstairs, you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms—one double and one twin—both furnished in a charming, rustic style. The spiral staircase leads to a central landing, providing access to both bedrooms, each with lovely views of the valley.

The dining room extension features a circular glass-topped table with 4 chairs, perfect for enjoying family meals with the added attraction of fantastic sea and valley views. There is a cosy wood burning stove and underfloor heating for added comfort.

The kitchen in The Ploughman’s Bothy is fully equipped for all your self-catering needs. It includes an electric hob and oven, cooker hood, built-in fridge with icebox, washer/tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and extractor fan. The cottage is also stocked with a full range of crockery, cutlery, and cooking utensils, so you’ll feel right at home preparing meals during your stay.

The bathroom is located on the ground floor and features a full-size bath with a fitted ‘instant’ shower, WC, washbasin, and all the necessary amenities, including a heated towel rail and wall-mounted fan heater.

Outside, you can enjoy the raised patio area with a picnic table, perfect for alfresco dining while you take in the stunning views of the Corriecravie valley and the historic burial mound of Torr a’ Chaisteil. The cottage also has a concrete parking area, making it easy to park and access the property.

The Ploughman’s Bothy is just a short drive from local attractions and is an excellent base for exploring the Isle of Arran, whether you’re interested in hiking, visiting historic sites, or simply relaxing in this peaceful corner of the island. It is located near Blackwaterfoot, with its sandy beach and the world-renowned Shiskine Golf Course, as well as the historic Lagg Distillery.
